The Company You Keep Podcast EP #5: Jeriel Sydney of Fable Soap Co.

Jeriel Sydney of Fable Soap Co. did something we have all fantasized about at one point or another: she dropped everything, sold all of her belongings, and moved to Italy with her boyfriend to start fresh. Feeling completely stuck and out of touch in the San Francisco rat race, Jeriel took a big risk and left all security behind. She learned about farming, soap making, and most importantly, discovered a little bit more about herself and what she truly wanted out of life. Upon coming back home about 4 months later, Tim and Jeriel ended up in Oakland, CA the epicenter of the Bay Area makers movement. Jeriel knew she wanted to start her own soap and apothecary company and wasted no time getting her Etsy store up and running. Click the link below to listen to the show and hear Jeriel’s unique journey to entrepreneurship, what it’s like being surrounded by so many talented makers in Oakland, and marketing your products on Etsy. The Company You Keep Podcast EP #4: Jess Brown Rag Dolls

Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the incredibly talented designer, Jess Brown. Jess has pioneered the field of bespoke, heirloom quality rag dolls. In her very early days she was approached by Anthropologie to do a collaboration! Can you even believe that? Imagine just starting out, and BAM! Anthro is calling you! We talk about the pressures that sort of collaboration can bring, and how to handle the business side of things first and foremost so you don’t jeopardize your current wholesalers and compromise your brand’s integrity. Jess is also a women’s clothing designer, and she explains how a hyper focus on heirloom quality garments has guided her from day one. She has been able to cultivate a very strong brand presence not only for her lovely dolls, but for her women’s clothing line as well. During Jess’ incredibly fruitful career, she has managed to raise two beautiful children and publish four books! Talk about a woman who can do it all! Take a listen and see what Martha Stewart, The …

The Company You Keep Podcast Episode 2- Benjamin and Emerson of Ampersand

Welcome to episode 2 of The Company You Keep Podcast! Today, I sit down with Benjamin and Emerson of Ampersand, one of San Francisco’s newest (and most darling!) floral studios! These two have me laughing the entire time, while we really dig deep into what it means to build up a retail shop and floral design company in one of the most expensive cities in the world. Learn how it took them 10 months to find a commercial space in the Mission District, how there were many days living on apples and mac and cheese in the beginning, and how they successfully created a ton of buzz for the business with Instagram and word-of-mouth marketing only!! This is truly one of my favorite interviews, I think there is something in it for every business owner or aspiring entrepreneur. The Company You Keep Podcast- Meet The Makers!

Hello and good day! I thought it would be interesting to sit down with my husband, Rob, to tell our story on the podcast! This episode is really fun and relaxed, and my husband and I laugh about all the crazy decisions we’ve made along the way that helped us become successful entrepreneurs. If you are interested in starting a Kickstarter campaign, you can learn how Rob successfully launched and funded a $10,000 campaign to get an urban farm up and running in the middle of New Orleans. We chat about starting up the farm in New Orleans, law school, starting Mrs. Vintage, selling Mrs. Vintage, and the opening and closing our retail store Homestead. Rob and I also discuss the importance of taking risks and sometimes going against the status quo. Take a listen and let me know what you think! Here is a photo of Rob at Truck & Barter Farms (the one he launched with the Kickstarter money). Rob and I dressed up in an old-timey photo in Gold Country. The photographer …
