She Dreams In French – By Heirloom Cocktail Company

I’m so excited to introduce you to Heirloom Cocktail Company! As many of you know, this is my husband Rob’s event cocktail project. Below, Rob shares some of his thoughts on wedding cocktails and shows us how to make a really delicious drink: She Dreams In French. This twist on the classic French 75 is so fresh and tasty, it’s absolutely perfect for a brunch, casual friend’s dinner or custom wedding cocktail! Enjoy!

Couples who strive to create a unique experience for their wedding guests often prepare a signature drink. But it can be a challenge to create a signature cocktail that is unique, delicious, and easy to prepare and serve. Many struggle with initial concepts and ingredient selection. For example, a decision to include rosemary and cucumber in a cocktail may be a great idea, but it’s only a small piece to the puzzle.

Wedding cocktails should be classic, but also playful. Spirited, yet not too boozy. A great place to start when brainstorming drink ideas is to begin with a classic cocktail recipe–a Manhattan, Sazerac, French 75, Gimlet, etc.–and to think of ways to put your own spin on it.

The following cocktail is a fun variation of a French 75 that uses Suze liqueur and Old Tom gin, which is a sweeter and more floral gin. Suze is a French aperetif liqueur flavored with gentian root that was famously enjoyed by Picasso. It adds a bitterness and herbaciousness to the cocktail that plays well with the sweetness of the strawberry and Old Tom gin. The fresh citrus and sparkling wine will add a balance and freshness, making it a fun yet complex interpretation of a classic French 75 that is perfect for a New Orleans wedding.



She Dreams in French

1 strawberry

1/4 oz simple syrup (one part sugar to one part water)

1/2 oz fresh lemon juice

1/2 oz Suze liqueur

1 oz Heyman’s Old Tom Gin

sparkling wine

Muddle the strawberry in a cocktail shaker with the simple syrup. Add lemon, Suze liqueur, and gin and shake vigorously. Double strain with a fine mesh strainer into a coupe or cocktail glass. Top with champaign and garnish with a lemon zest (or a strawberry slice).
