Winter Wedding Inspiration + Tips on Styling a Shoot

Hello loves! I wanted to share with you today this inspiration board I recently put together for our Winter wedding inspiration shoot. I often get asked by other’s wanting to get into styling and design, how to put together a styled shoot. Here are a few tips and tricks that I use to stay focused and create beauty. Enjoy! ~Julia xox

1. Stay focused on what it is you want to convey. There are a million inspirational photos out there, and often times, it seems like everything has already been done. Pick a ‘theme’ or ‘message’ and stay really REALLY focused on that every step of the way, this will help with the theme’s cohesiveness and uniqueness.

2. Gather a small group of photos that represent the feeling, colors, theme and fashion you would like the shoot to feel like. You are not trying to copy these images, they will just help focus your creative ideas visually in one place.

3. Once you have your general theme in mind, go about picking a photographer, venue, models, fashion, hair & makeup team, florist, paper goods, rentals, cake, and any other special and personal touches that can make your shoot unique. Each step of the way, go back and think about your original theme and idea, and ask yourself ‘does this make sense’? Will the paper goods match the venue? Seriously, all of the details are a really big deal when these different elements come together.

4. Practice makes perfect! Set realistic goals for the shoot, and just know that with each one, you will get better and better at styling. You will learn tricks along the way that that will help you with the next one. I am constantly learning and growing and with each successful shoot, I am that much more pumped for the next so I can apply the new things I’ve learned.

Here’s the smallest of sneak peeks from our most recent styled shoot! Once all of the photos are ready, I’ll be sure to share. Merry Christmas!
