With all of these rainy New Orleans afternoons, sometimes you just have to treat yourself to something special. Last Wednesday was gloomy, grey, and full of frizzy hair. Julia and I needed a pick-me-up, so when Emily Kupperman, owner of Blo Bar, offered for us to have some bridal updos done at the salon, we jumped at the chance. The girls at Blo Bar wash, blow-dry, and style hair. I was so excited to try it out!
We escaped NOLA’s stormy skies to sip champagne in Blo Bar’s clean, contemporary interior. The space has plenty of pops of hot pink, along with one of my favorite new color combos – cocoa brown and powder blue. My stylist, Jessica, was really helpful and enthusiastic.
We tried a couple of ideas before settling on a classic chignon. I have super-fine, bleach blonde hair, and my attempts at updos usually end in a top-knot the size of a ping-pong ball. But my stylist turned my hair into a thick chignon. I am definitely going to come back before my next big event and let the girls work their magic. Wash and blow-drys at the salon are $35, and updos are $65. Next time, I would love to bring a picture and some accessories because the Mrs. Vintage Pinterest is bursting with images of wedding hair that I will never be able to do without some professional help.
Now, you know we didn’t go get our hair done on a random Wednesday just for fun! We were looking out for our lovely brides, you know, testing the waters. Blo Bar is located at 5530 Magazine and rents their whole salon space for $350 per hour, which includes 10 blow-outs for you and all of your lovely bridesmaids! Even better, you can bring your own makeup artist, manicurist, and outside food and drinks for no additional cost. The long hair-styling bar would be perfect to fill up with your bridal party for stress free pre-wedding prep. Renting out the salon with a group of friends for a special event or birthday party would also be really fun. Blo Bar also offers bridal consultations for $65 and styling on your big day for $95. And, they will attach that tricky veil for you!
When we left Blo Bar it was just starting to rain, so I had no choice but to run across the street and slip into St. Joe’s Bar for a couple of blueberry mojitos with some friends. I think this might need to be my new rainy day tradition.
