To say that 2012 was a life changing year would be an understatement. The past 365 days have been a whirlwind of new endeavors, risk taking and commitment making. For the first time ever I feel personally rewarded for the work I’m doing and the path I’m on feels like the right one. In 2010 I gave up a promising interior design career in San Francisco and moved with my then boyfriend to New Orleans so he could pursue a graduate degree in law. It was scary and exciting and would turn out to be the biggest blessing for my career thus far. This new (and wildly different!) community welcomed us with open arms and would serve as the incubator for my young business in the wedding industry.
On July 4th weekend of 2011 said boyfriend of 5 years proposed on a very sweet and somewhat foiled picnic in Avery Island, Louisiana. While I was planning my own wedding and working full-time in sales I decided it was the perfect time to start my own business. Yes, I’m crazy. Rob was (and still is) a full-time student which made this whole endeavor even more insane and despite all of the well intentioned advice against starting my own business just yet, I launched Mrs. Vintage on February 13, 2012. Yes it was rocky at first, especially because I continued working in sales for the first 8 months. I would literally be up at the crack of dawn, work all day, then do Mrs. Vintage e-mails, design, etc. all evening and then go hunting for vintage furniture all weekend long. Between wedding planning, working full-full time and putting every extra ounce of energy I had into my start-up I simultaneously started blogging for the first time ever, facebooking like crazy, sent out my first ever Tweet and Pinned my way into the wedding world.
I am insanely grateful to all of the New Orleans wedding vendors who took a chance on me and my crazy idea. I gain so much inspiration from all of you, and each milestone I see you pass and goal I see you achieve makes me want to be that much better, so I can continue to work side by side with such amazing people.
To my 2012 brides, I just want to say the most sincere thank you from the bottom of my heart. It’s because of each one of you that I was able to follow my dream, be my own boss and break into this new and different creative career. I feel so blessed every single day to be doing what I love to do and to be surrounded by such creative and delightful couples.
Even with the launch of Mrs. Vintage & changing careers completely, I must say marrying the love of my life on June 16, 2012 was the highlight of my year. Our outdoor California wedding was a fairy tale, and being surrounded by all of our closest friends and family was a dream come true. I look back on the photos and just smile at how lovely a day it was. Here’s just one, I promise more of our big day are coming soon!
Here’s to a new year filled with tons of love, happiness and even more exciting and fruitful endeavors! ~ Julia xox
