One year ago today, on July 2nd (and more importantly America’s birthday weekend) my groom proposed to me on a picnic at Avery Island, Louisiana. Well kinda. The mosquitos were out in full force on that sticky July day, so the romantic picnic he had in mind didn’t exactly turn out as so. I spent most of the day in the car enjoying our picnic food as it was a better alternative to getting eaten alive by the pesky mosquitos. Rob doesn’t really get bothered by them, so he was out taking photos of the scenery. He eventually coerced me out of the car to come and help him with a photo– which seems a little strange looking back– but I obliged. He was down on one knee (taking a photo) and asked me to grab his new flash for his camera which was in his pocket. I reached in and pulled out a ring box! Through laughter and tears I of course accepted his proposal. We were married June 16th, 2012.
I had wanted to do a picnic engagement session to recreate what would have been our actual engagement had the little pests not thrown a wrench into things. Kara Miller of Kara Miller Photography did a fantastic job capturing the soft, playful images we were hoping for. She surprised us and had our engagement photos ready to view the day before our wedding (which we had taken just a week prior!). Here are a few of my favorites of me and my groom! Enjoy. xox
of course I had to use roses in antique bottles!
no picnic is complete without a little wine!
That sums up the picnic shoot! I’ve included a few more from the engagement session! Thank you Kara Miller, I loved how they all turned out!
